Larry Powell and his wife Wilma relocated to Wilmington in 1970 where he took a position as a tax administrator. After 13 yrs, he transferred to Buncombe County and took an early retirement. During that time, he also owned Will's INC., a real estate development and rental business, which was primarily run by Mrs. Wilma Powell. In 1989 Larry was approached to open a bail bonding business. After giving the idea a great deal of consideration he decided to give this venture his all. Not to just become a North Carolina Bail Bondsman but the best NC Bail bondsman possible.
After taking the North Carolina state exam he became a professional bondsman and soon there after he obtained his surety license. Not long after he obtained his surety license the North Carolina legislation changed the law on surety license requirements. Now there are numerous surety bondsmen in the bonding industry.
Mr. Powell was the first in New Hanover County to obtain his surety license. Once in business Mr. Powell thought there should be a better way to over see and monitor the bonding industry so he assisted in forming the Lower Cape Fear Bonding Association, on which he served as president for many years.
After the development of the local association Mr. Powell worked with several other bondsmen throughout the state to form a state bonding association in which he is a founding member and has served on the Board of Directors.
